For the past few months, the IIT Bombay Racing team has been hard at work, building the newer, better and faster version of the electric racing car – the EVo 4.0, and on Saturday, they finally unveiled it for a large audience composed of tech and racing enthusiasts alike.
The event started in PCSA on a high note, with a presentation by the team leader, Pratyush Nalla, about the features of the vehicle – complete with a rendered model of the car. The vehicle boasts of an impressive set of statistics: an acceleration of 0-100kmph in 3.5 secs, a top speed of 111 kmph, a reduced kerb weight of 254 kgs, and a power-to-weight ratio of 422bhp/tonne.
This was followed by short inspirational speeches by the newly appointed Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Soumyo Mukherji, the faculty advisors for the racing team, Professors, Ramesh Singh and Anirban Guha, and the chief guest, Ms. Harshbeena Zaveri, MD of NRB Bearings – all of whom commended the team on their efforts in bringing the vision to fruition. The team was awarded Formula Student Award, accompanied by a monetary prize of GBP 3000.
Finally, the moment that everyone had been waiting for arrived. The veil on Evo 4.0 was lifted amidst fanfare and attendees scampered to click photographs of the car. This was followed by a test run of the car on the hill side road behind VMCC, which was attended by a large number of people, despite the sweltering heat. The onlookers were rewarded for their eagerness as the driver completed multiple circuits along the track.
The team is looking forward to participating in the Formula Student race to be held at Silverstone, UK in July this year, where they will compete against some of the top student racing teams from around the world. They hope to better their last year’s performance, where they completed the scrutiny tests and the endurance runs, and went on to achieve a best lap-time of 73 seconds. The team is aiming at a top 20 finish this year.
We wish them the best of luck!
