Insight reached out to We Listen, a mental health support NGO founded by IITB alumni from the batch of ‘20 and ‘21. Following are some of the valuable insights into We Listen’s journey and its commitment to offering immediate support for mental health and societal challenges.

1. When and why did We Listen come into existence?

It all started with a phone call from Raghav. We were all connected over a conference call where Raghav said, “let’s start an NGO focusing on helping young adults going through mental health issues”. It was within 5 minutes that we all agreed that yes, we can make a difference. We were all from IITB and we knew how the SWC worked. We wanted to help people/students who wanted immediate help while going through a crisis. And so, “NGO We Listen” was formulated. We officially went live on 10th April 2020 and got officially registered under the Govt of India on 19th September 2020.

2. Who are the founders of We Listen?

We Listen was founded by

– Raghav Goyal (Founder, IITB B.Tech Chemical Engineering 2016-2020, currently Consultant at Bain and Co.)

– Anugya Singh (Co-Founder, IITB B.Tech Civil Engineering 2017-2021, currently UI/UX Designer at TCS)

– Nimish Lakhotia (Co-Founder, IITB B.Tech MEMS 2017-2021, currently Senior Product Manager at Axis Bank)

– Mukul Jangid (Co-Founder, IITB B.Tech ME 2016-2020, currently a part of strategy team at HighRadius)

3. How does We Listen differ from the SWC (Student Wellness Center)?

SWC requires appointments and non-anonymous sessions, whereas We Listen offers immediate help during crises. We have anonymous Q/A sessions, mentoring programs, and support circles, along with online campaigns and webinars.

4. What kinds of help does We Listen provide?

We have been reaching out and providing help in the following ways –

– We Listen Forum: You can ask your queries anonymously on the forum and can get them answered by a mental health expert

– Social Media Campaigns and Webinars: Raising awareness and educating the masses about mental health issues and other stigmatised societal issues.

– We Mentor: Helping young adults transit smoothly from school to college by providing help in both personal and professional verticals.

– Grief Relief Circle: Support group to help those who have lost their near and dear ones and help them overcome their grief.
